ONGRID PROCESS
The System
Ongrid or grid connected rooftop solar plants are connected to the electricity grid of your residential connection from the discom. This plant is cheaper than other types of solar plants as it doesn’t contain battery banks and the government provides lucrative subsidies for residential connections up to 10kw. Since this is a grid connected system and it doesn’t consist of a battery bank, as such this system works only in the day time and only when there is a live electricity connection. The advantage of this plant is that it is cheaper after the government subsidy and it reduces your electricity cost up to zero through a net metering mechanism.
Net Metering System
Net metering / export import metering system is a mandatory part in the on-grid process. With this system you can export the unused generation of your plant to the discom and deduct your units in the night through the exported units. Ex: suppose you consume 20 units from your grid without solar throughout the day and night. Now if you install a solar plant and it generates 15 units of energy in a day, then these 15 units are directly deducted from your daily calculation and you are charged only for 5 units remaining.
OFFGRID PROCESS
Offgrid or standalone rooftop solar plants are not connected to the electricity grid of your residential connection from the discom. This plant is costlier than on-grid solar plants as it contains a battery bank and here the government doesn’t provide any lucrative subsidies. The advantage of this system is that it works throughout the day and night until you exhaust the battery bank. Most people opt for this system who don’t want to face huge electrical duties for the present day and future to follow.
